DRAFT HORSE SOLAR FAQs

Who is TED Renewables?

Tyr Energy Development Renewables – known as TED Renewables – is headquartered in Kansas and focuses on the development of renewable energy projects that are safe, reliable, and produce affordable energy.

Will this Raise My Power Bills?

No, in fact, integrating solar power can help stabilize electricity costs. Solar power is sold under long-term contracts with consistent pricing. TED Renewables will collaborate with a company or utility seeking to incorporate solar power into its energy mix. The decreasing cost of solar power, down over 70% since 2010, has made it one of the most economical options for electricity generation.

Why Solar?

Solar energy, clean, reliable, and affordable, is the world's fastest-growing electricity source, bolstering national security through increased domestic energy production. Its myriad benefits have made it a popular choice for individuals, families, and businesses worldwide. Explore its advantages further in this resource.

Is Solar Noisy?

No – solar panels don’t make any noise at all! Inverters, which receive the electricity from many rows of panels, make noise similar to the sounds of a window AC unit, but those are intentionally positioned near the middle of the project so that they won't be heard outside the fenceline.

Where Will the Power Go?

The power produced by Draft Horse Solar will be delivered to the local Tama County electrical grid, helping to diversify the state’s energy portfolio. The ultimate buyer of the power is yet to be determined.

What Happens if the Solar Project Goes Out of Use?

As part of a standard permitting process, the project must provide a detailed decommissioning plan and cost estimate that is created, and routinely updated, by a 3rd party engineer. Then, a bond will be put in place for the full cost which ensures that money is always available to remove the solar project if or when it is no longer operable.
